Ethics

The history of the world is at a turning point, Man must choose his future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile the future faces huge risks as well as great potential. In order to go on we must acknowledge, even considering the incredible cultural diversity and forms of life, that we are all part of a single family and global community with a common destiny. We must unite to create a sustainable global society based on respect for Nature, universal human rights, economic justice and a culture of peace.

This requires a huge mental and emotional transformation. It requires a new idea of what global interdependence and universal responsibility means. We must use our imagination to develop and implement a vision of a sustainable way of life at local, regional, national and global levels. Our cultural diversities are a priceless inheritance and every culture will find its own way to express this vision.

Often life involves tensions between important values, implicating difficult choices. Nevertheless, we must find a way to harmonise diversity into unity, the right of freedom with the common good and short term objectives with long term results.

Every individual, family, organisation, business and government has a crucial role. The arts, the sciences, educational institutions, the media, business, NGOs and governments are all called upon to demonstrate creative leadership.

Our time should be remembered for the reawakening of a new respect for life, for a serious undertaking towards sustainability, for increasing the struggle for justice and peace and for a joyful celebration of life.
