Gloves
The history of gloves goes back to Ancient Egypt: Pharaohs wore gloves as a sign of prestige. The gloves worn by Romans, called “digitalia”, were in silk or linen and were used for handling food with. Gloves became increasingly important as they were adopted as part of their liturgical costumes by churchmen in the Middle Ages: every investiture or greetings by authority was characterised by the use of gloves. Gloves became emblematic of attack and challenges.
French craftsmen were unrivalled until the Napoleonic Wars distributed their techniques throughout Europe.
The first half of the 20th century saw gloves as an intrinsical part of female and male elegance and emblematic of the wellborne,as suntanned hands demonstrated lower class and manual labour.
Today gloves have reacquired their natural function as a protection for hands against the cold and injury.
This is why Grivel has created a new range using high technical materials and a sophisticated process that makes them the best company in the most extreme conditions.
